The 2008 Remarkable End Of Year Concert held on Sunday Dec 7th was also a fundraising concert which raised $1150 for “Redkite – Helping Children Through Cancer”

This included a $500 cheque from Adrian Wright and his family.

The Remarkable End Of Year Concert for 2006 saw the ‘Richard Smith Memorial Scholarship’ go to Tim McEwan.
This entitles him to a full year of tuition as he tackles Grades 4 and 5 in Piano for 2007.

On Nov 27th at the Remarkable End of Year Concert for 2005, an inaugural scholarship was awarded in memory of Richard J. Smith - Mark Matthews former Piano Teacher.

The Richard J. Smith Memorial Scholarship includes 12 months tuition for 2006 and was presented to 10 year old Taran Brassington of Figtree, Wollongong, who achieved excellent results in his Prelim and First Grade Piano Exams this year.

Students

Mark has been tutoring Piano, Organ and keyboards since 1980.

During this time he has seen numerous students come thru the teaching studios.

Initially he taught for Jurjens in Wollongong

He commenced Mark-Time Music studios in 1990 when he moved to part-time Civil Engineering  and increased music tuition.

The launch of Music for the Heart and Soul also sees the launch of the new business name ‘Remarkable’ and website www.remarkablemusic.net created by Jaques Design and KMT Systems.

Presently he teaches around a dozen students on a weekly basis, in his private studio

In 1985 his student Deone Wilson won the Australian Final of the Yamaha Electone (organ) festival and competed for Australia in Germany with a original composition by Mark entitled ‘Creation’.

In 1995 Billy Kostovski represented Australia in the same festival against countries from around the asia oceania region in Sydney Australia.

The Following year David Skinner won a trip for himself and Mark to Kuala Lumpur to represent Australia in the finals there.

Numerous eisteddfod and exam successes have been regular with Mark's students

Mark uses the Alfreds course books for beginners and follows an amended Yamaha teaching method and encourages both reading and aural skills

His love for everything from classical to the blues gives his pupils a varied and diverse approach to their piano and keyboard studies.
